Lidköping is located in Sweden’s historical cradle where the Västergötland area’s agricultural communities meet Sweden’s largest lake. It’s a wonderful location with good means of transport to nearby towns, to the major cities of Gothenburg and Stockholm and on to Europe and the rest of the world.

By train: There are direct trains on the Kinnekulle railway line to Gothenburg twice a day, Monday–Saturday. The journey takes 1.5 hours. A journey to Stockholm goes via the towns of Hallsberg or Skövde.By car and bus: Sweden’s major cities are easy to reach on the E20 motorway. Gothenburg (140 km) and Stockholm (350 km).
By air: Passenger service from Gothenburg/Landvetter airport and Trollhättan.

- In 1446, the trading post Lidköping was granted a city charter, thereby becoming the first city on Lake Vänern.
- The municipality’s coastal area along Lake Vänern is 220 km long.
- The municipality has a population of 38,000, of which some 26,000 live in central Lidköping.
