Award-winning housing

New forms of expression. New architecture is bringing a fresh look to Lidköping, both to individual houses and central residential areas. The Balder quarter is one exciting example, and has won an award for combining the traditional red painted finish with contemporary style. Old buildings sit side by side with contemporary exteriors here, creating contrasting courtyard settings. Accommodation for rent includes old apartments in the city centre, low-rise terraced houses and detached houses, and housing in small towns such as Vinninga and Järpås. Houses are being built in Lidköping at a rate that is unparalleled by neighbouring municipalities and cities of similar size.

This pace of building is made possible by the general upswing and the availability of attractive sites. We are meeting the growing demand for sites by planning new development areas that are close to the lake. Lidköping is very much a garden city, with a large number of individual houses in the central areas. Of the municipality's 37,000 residents, around 25,000 live in urban areas.

Around the city there is a living rural community and the municipality also has a significant number of farming households. Many people also choose to live in one of the smaller suburbs, where good services make closeness to the city especially attractive. Regardless of the type of accommodation we have low municipal taxes and charges. Another important service is the broadband network, which is growing and developing within the municipality.

The Balder quarter won the Red Paint Prize for the best innovative architecture. It is owned by the municipal property company AB Bostäderlänk till annan webbplats, öppnas i nytt fönster. Vänerblick is another example of new building, in this case owner-occupied apartments by the shore of Lake Vänern built by HSB. Sites for private building are available or should soon be available in the areas of Villa Giacomina and Råda, and in the small towns of Örslösa and Vinninga in the municipality.
