City life with plenty to offer

Market trade, shopping and lively cafés. Historically, Lidköping is a shipping and trading city, and this still colours its atmosphere. The original character of the central quarters creates a charming setting with just about everything within walking distance. It is no exaggeration to say that local trade and city cafés are flourishing. The range of shopping and specialty stores makes Lidköping a popular place to visit. Quality products by local designers, artists and ceramicists, and small shops offering the latest in Nordic fashion design, for example, complement well-known chain stores and contribute to the overall attraction.

Bakeries, patisseries and cafés of many styles are appreciated by both the residents of Lidköping and by visitors. It is not unusual to round off a Saturday shopping session with a relaxing coffee. Art exhibitions, evening music performances and picnics in Stadsträdgården (central park) when the season permits, and walks and cycle tours along the Lidan quayside are also part of city life.

Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, master of Läckö Slott (Läckö Castle), has left his mark on Lidköping in many ways. His former hunting lodge Gamla Rådhuset also stands in the centre of Nya Stadens torg, and now serves as a symbol for the Municipality of Lidköping. In Limtorget there are a number of original old timber buildings. Popular open markets are held twice a week in Nya Stadens torg, offering an attractive selection of local products. In Rörstrand there are also factory retail outlets for Iittala, Höganäs Keramik, BodaNova, Hackman and many other manufacturers.
