Leisure in style

Bathing, boating and ball sports. The location by Lake Vänern means a lot for leisure in Lidköping. The opportunities for bathing, boating and fishing are just about unbeatable. The municipality has a 220-km stretch of lakeside, an archipelago comprising 2600 islands, ten municipal bathing sites and eight guest harbours. This is complemented by a living rural landscape combining cultivated land with the rolling countryside of Kålland.

The closeness of Kinnekulle - the flowering mountain - is another asset, as it offers many walks through wonderful countryside. Sport and games are another important part of leisure. The sports centre, ice rink and swimming pool are popular facilities. Bandy - an old form of ice hockey played on a large pitch - is also very popular, largely due to the success of the local team, Villa Lidköping, and the bandy pitch is used by many junior and senior teams.

Lidköping Riding Club is another society with a wide range of activities. Golf is a growing sport. Lidköping's second golf club was formed recently and a new course is being built on Kållandsö. Lidköping has an exceptionally diverse range of societies and no less than 450 active clubs.
Lake Vänern has the largest freshwater archipelago in Europe, and fishing with rod and line is free. The largest place to fish is Spiken, which has restaurants and attracts many tourists in summer. Boating is one of the biggest leisure pursuits, Golf is popular, with an 18-hole course in Truve and another taking shape on Kållandsö. Golf, tennis, riding and handball are also popular sports in Lidköping.
