Lidköping for children

Collaboration and continuity in teaching. In pre-schools and schools we actively invest in quality in all its forms. We carry out an annual analysis before drawing up plans for the coming school year. Staff with a variety of skills complement each other, and school councils and interest groups give pupils and parents excellent opportunities to use their influence. The built environment in schools is also very important. Our premises meet a consistent high standard. Childcare is a priority area. In Lidköping we guarantee a place in pre-school within four months. From the age of six all children are offered a place in a public pre-school class, most of them located in schools.

We are also committed to freedom of choice, and many of our pre-schools and schools have their own area of specialisation. There are several private alternatives for pre-schooling, including Montessori teaching, which is also available to children aged 7-12. For the age group 13-16 we offer special classes with the opportunity to study certain subjects in greater depth, such as technology and sports.

The environment, IT and internationalisation are other areas that our schools are investing in. Many collaborate internationally and have pupil exchange schemes with schools in other countries. One particular asset in compulsory schooling is the collaboration with the Väner Museum on water, the environment and nature.

Our pre-school services offer freedom of choice in the form of family day centres, 23 municipal pre-schools, a private Montessori pre-school and two independent pre-schools. Compulsory schooling comprises 18 schools, three of them serving school years 7-9, and one spanning years 1-9. Compulsory schooling also includes an independent school serving school years 1-3. We are committed to childhood development across the entire age range from 4 to 16. This work is guided by regular milestone tests to check development and learning.
